COVID-19 through Malaysians’ Lens:
Knowledge, Attitude and Practice

Issue

When COVID-19 first appeared, it brought a wave of fear and uncertainty that swept across the globe. As a new, life-threatening virus, it left many people confused and unsure about how to protect themselves. To tackle this, there was an urgent need to gather baseline information to understand public Knowledge, Attitudes, and Practices (KAP) and identify what kinds of interventions were necessary to correct misconceptions about the disease.

Malaysia (nationwide)

Our Methodology/Approach:

To understand how Malaysians were coping, we set out on a nationwide study, reaching out to communities from bustling cities to quiet villages. We wanted to know: What did people really understand about this new virus (Knowledge)? How were they feeling about the growing threat (Attitudes)? And most importantly, what steps were they taking to protect themselves and their loved ones (Practices)? By exploring these questions, we hoped to uncover not just facts, but the heartbeat of a nation navigating an unprecedented crisis.

Findings:

The study revealed some promising insights. Malaysians, overall, demonstrated a good level of knowledge about COVID-19—understanding how it spread and how to prevent it. A large portion of the population reported following prevention measures like wearing masks, handwashing, and social distancing. Even more encouraging was the nation's optimistic outlook; despite the challenges, many Malaysians believed in their ability to overcome the pandemic together.
